Dear readers, Today is the day! My (short) novel The Color of Time is now available in paperback and ebook everywhere books are sold.
"An expansive original parable of sapphic yearning, mistakes and redemption, and—most importantly—the fight for freedom." — Florence Chien, author of The Revenant of Surolifia "A tour de force that pulses with political intrigue." — Jason Denzel, author of The Mystic Trilogy "A wholly unique and positively delightful read!" — T.A. Chan, author of The Celestial Seas
Celebrate Tonight at Fireside Books & MoreIf you live in the SF Bay Area, join me tonight at Fireside Books & More in Redwood City at 6:30 pm for the launch party. The event is free and the store is located right by the Redwood City Caltrain station. If you drive to the event, I recommend planning a bit of extra time to find a street parking spot, or to use the Caltrain parking lot.
Virtual Panels at WisCon 48Surprise! I'm going to be on three virtual panels at WisCon 48 this coming Memorial Day weekend. WisCon is a feminist, diverse, inclusive science fiction and fantasy convention usually taking place in Madison, WI, but this year's edition is entirely virtual. You can register here at a very reasonable price for a 5-day event filled with panels, readings, and workshops! Here's my schedule (all times in CDT):
A discussion of everything new and exciting in queer science fiction, fantasy, and horror over the last two years. What great new stories are being told? Who are the exciting new voices to look for? What themes and tropes are popular right now? Panelists will share recommendations and analysis, as well as their thoughts on what they'd like to see more of in the future.
Plur1bus made a huge splash this year; let's talk about it here! What's appealing about it as a mainstream scifi thriller? What antecedents is it drawing on? How is it playing with or manipulating its genre elements? How do scifi, fantasy, and romance tropes and ideas interact within this text? And what do we make of the fact that Carol is a disgruntled queer romantasy author?
When tales are retold, the retelling casts a new light on the original, and on the people doing the telling. From Angela Carter to Malinda Lo to Ursula Vernon, how have fairytale retellings changed over time? What keeps bringing us back to them? And what happens to their moral messages when they shift into new historical, cultural, and identity frameworks? Reminder: Panel at the Bay Area Book FestivalJoin me and authors Elaine U. Cho, Tim Melody Pratt, and Julia Vee at the Bay Area Book Festival in Berkeley for a panel about Starships & Second Chances: Tales of Memory, Belonging and Exile in Space Opera Sci-Fi on Sunday, May 31 at 11 am. Admission is free! More information here. That's it for today. Thank you for reading and for supporting my writing. Now Available For Purchase |

Dear readers, I hope you're having a great summer and a better weekend than mine. At the time I'm writing these words, my cat Maui is hospitalized in the ICU of my local ER vet clinic. He's dealing with a sudden, very bad bout of feline pancreatitis and his prognosis is guarded; it's a day by day assessment. He's been stable and pushing through it so far, so fingers crossed he gets better with supportive care and time. But he's very sick, so my spouse and I are readying ourselves for the...
