THE SEVENTH SISTER Is Out Today!

Dear readers,

Today is the day! My novella The Seventh Sister is now available in paperback and ebook everywhere books are sold.

If you enjoy dark fantasy, fairytale retellings, fast-paced reads, mystery and tension, and (almost) all-female casts, this book is for you.

"A dark fairy tale about gods, betrayal and dangerous magic, this novella will keep you turning the pages right up to its fiery end." — Jelena Dunato, author of Dark Woods, Deep Water

"A skillful, lyrical retelling of Snow White with shades of Bluebeard." — Nicole Willson, Bram Stoker Award-nominated author of Tidepool

"The Seventh Sister gripped me from the first sentence and didn’t let go." — Koji A. Dae, author of Casual

"As dreamy as a fairytale and as tenderly crafted, The Seventh Sister gives glimpses into a world rich with possibilities.” — Naseem Jamnia, author of The Bruising of Qilwa

WELCOME TO SANCTUARY

Seer Éliane is destined to a brilliant future as a servant of Aurië, the Sun-God. Everything changes when the High Seer, her superior, becomes jealous of Éliane's abilities and chases her from the temple.

Having no family, Éliane has no choice but to find refuge in Sanctuary, the mysterious mansion of Lady of Clairemont, alongside six women living there as sisters and refugees.

When the sisters begin to disappear, Éliane must find the truth about Sanctuary and its secretive owner before she disappears, too.

A horrific retelling of Bluebeard and Snow White, The Seventh Sister is a tale about sisterhood and overcoming adversity.

Miscellaneous (Writing) News

• My agent accepted my developmental edits for Nightbloom, my sci-fi short novel now officially at 50,000 words. They are working on line edits and will send them to me by the end of April. This book should hit editors' inboxes in the spring.

• My folk horror novelette "The Hunger of Paradise" will come out later this year, likely toward the end of the summer, in the Dreamweavers anthology that will be published by Fractured Mirror Publishing. At the time I am writing these words, I just signed the contract. More news to come soon!

• As for new manuscripts, my next project is The Library of the Dead, a science fantasy novel inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin's The Tombs of Atuan, N.K. Jemisin's The Killing Moon, and Arkady Martine's A Memory Called Empire. I expect this manuscript to be a full-length novel and hope to get it done by the end of 2026.

• Monster Hunter Stories 3 comes out in a few days and I'm so excited about this game. As some of you may know, I am a gamer at heart, and while I don't play as much as I used to (writing keeps me busy) I still carve time between manuscripts to play a handful of games during the year. Thus, MHS3 will be my first game of 2026. I'm a huge fan of the Monster Hunter franchise, and I loved MHS1 and MHS2, so I can't miss it.

Recent Reads & Book Recommendations

▫ Enshittification by Cory Doctorow — If you've ever wondered why the internet (and other things) sucks so much these days when it used to be so good, Doctorow delivers a brilliant analysis of the mechanisms behind what he calls enshittification. This book made me so upset, but also so hopeful about what we can do to stop it (i.e. enforcing antitrust laws, fighting monopolies, and enacting more regulations to protect consummers).

▫ Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher — I'll read pretty much anything Ursula puts out there, but now and then one of her books enchants me more than usual. This is the case of Snake-Eater, that I recommend all fans of contemporary fantasy to pick up. It's one of my new all-time favorites.

▫ Accelerated Growth Environment by Lauren C. Teffeau — This is the first release of Shiraki Press, a new publisher of hopepunk genre fiction (and my own publisher for The Color of Time). I LOVED it! This book packs a lot in just 168 pages. It is a captivating blend of sci-fi and thriller with a hint of sapphic romance. It was so engrossing that I read it in two sittings. You can find it everywhere books are sold and on Shiraki Press's store.

That's it for today. Thank you for reading and for supporting my writing.

Dear readers, I hope you're having a great summer and a better weekend than mine. At the time I'm writing these words, my cat Maui is hospitalized in the ICU of my local ER vet clinic. He's dealing with a sudden, very bad bout of feline pancreatitis and his prognosis is guarded; it's a day by day assessment. He's been stable and pushing through it so far, so fingers crossed he gets better with supportive care and time. But he's very sick, so my spouse and I are readying ourselves for the...
